Julie's grandma had amazing gardens. Every year she would plant dozens of dahlias in her upper garden. She also had the perfect basement to overwinter the tubers. We have had to do a lot of trial and error to keep tubers in good shape over our long Minnesota winters, but we finally have had success. We are happy to offer dahlia tubers to our customers. We are certain they will bring you lots of joy.

Pick Your Own Flowers:

Keep an eye on our socials and read our emails- this is how we communicate when the field will be open for picking. (Pro tip: add us to your contact list to keep our emails out of the Promotions and/or Spam folders)

Bring your friends and family, and some good shoes (boots if it has recently rained). We will supply everything else.

Start at the Farm Store, select a container then stop at the table outside to fill your container with water and get cutting instructions. Feel free to come back and swap out containers or grab additonal ones as you pick.

Enjoy your time strolling through the rows of flowers, cutting the ones you want to take home.

End at the Farm Store to pay for your flowers and to shop our other offerings.

A couple of reminders:

Please leave pets at home. For health and safety reasons, pets aren't allowed.

Honeybees will be busy working, so please don't swat at them.

Dahlia Planting Tips:

Each tuber (or small clump) had a visible eye when your order was packed. Don't worry if they start to sprout before planting.

Prior to planting, store tubers in a cool, dry place that has good air flow. Remove tubers from shipping boxes (fine to leave in the bags). Do not set the bags of tubers directly on cold concrete.

Wait until the soil temperature is at least 60 degrees to plant. They are tropical plants. If planted when the soil is too cold, they will rot.

Plant 4-6” deep in full sun.

Don’t water until after there is a set of green leaves present. It may take 4+ weeks for the tuber to sprout once planted.

Dahlia Growing Tips:

They will need some support as they grow. Most grow over 4 feet tall and you don't want them to topple over.

Water your dahlias deeply.

To keep constant blooms, cut long stems and dead head spent buds.
